It's possible that it's past time to retire from the tanning bed. According to a new study, those under the age of 40 who visit a salon for a golden glow have a 69% higher chance of developing Basal cell carcinoma (BCC), a kind of skin cancer, than those who do not.
Patients under the age of 40 were recruited to take part in the trial with over 800 taking part half of them were diagnosed with BCC. A relationship between cancer and tanning salons was discovered when researchers questioned each participant about their history of indoor UV exposure. This was considerably more hazardous than the normal sunburn, which was discovered by chance. In fact, avoiding tanning beds can prevent 43% of early-onset BCC cases and 27 percent of all BCC cases in women.
